The Power of Partnership

TVA, local power companies recognize Public Power Week

Across the nation, public power providers uplift communities and change lives for the better.

Tennessee Valley Authority, the nation’s largest public power enterprise, provides affordable, reliable, resilient and increasingly clean energy to 10 million people throughout the seven-state region.

In every step forward, TVA is guided by a longstanding mission of service to people.

The devasting effects of Hurricane Helene have given sharp focus to public power’s critical role in local communities.

Amid severe flooding throughout eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, TVA has worked around the clock with local power companies to restore services and assist individuals impacted by the storm. TVA will continue to support communities as they work to rebuild in the months and years to come.

Because TVA was built for more than electricity.

When Congress established the enterprise in 1933, amid the Great Depression, it delivered a central mandate to make life better for people throughout the Valley region.

For more than nine decades, TVA has worked to help create and retain jobs, protect the environment, promote economic development and support local education.

TVA works in partnership with local power companies to ensure affordable, reliable power continues to flow safely to homes and businesses. These local power companies – municipal utilities and regional cooperatives – purchase power from TVA and distribute it to consumers within their designated service areas.

TVA and these local power companies join thousands of public power utilities this first week of October to highlight Public Power Week and the role of public utilities in serving communities.
